You can accomplish it quickly without needing huge systems. AHS Rescue is a leading expert in rope access classes, widely recognized for their expertise. They provide first-rate, certified training and essential equipment to clients nationwide. This includes both commercial businesses and various government organizations. We partner with Ropes That Rescue, one of the most highly regarded rope access training schools in the nation, to offer eleven specialized rope rescue classes providing safety to anyone working at height, police and fire departments, and Search and Rescue (SAR) teams.
We offer the following rope rescue training classes specifically geared towards mountain and canyon SAR, swiftwater, and offset highline training.
Specialized Rope Rescue Classes & Search and Rescue Workshops
- Mountain Rescue Workshop (MRW)—This course teaches students basic mountain rescue techniques, enabling them to access, stabilize, and extricate patients in climbing accidents, focusing on accident sites accessible only from below. This course heavily emphasizes knot-tying skills and the design of system anchors. Also, students learn about passive and active rock climbing camming devices. This is because there is a strong focus on wilderness techniques; heavy equipment is typically absent in such environments. We teach the use of high directionals and provide training on the Arizona Vortex system. This class, along with Canyon Rescue and Team Skills Workshops, covers most wilderness rope rescue needs (90%).
- Canyon Rescue Workshop (CRW)—This unique, invitation-only class requires no tuition and aims to enhance serious search and rescue skills. The CRW is a hands-on rope course set in Utah’s beautiful canyons, ideal for varied terrains. This includes the narrow slot canyons prevalent across the Southwestern US landscape. Students collaboratively learn to construct complex systems for reaching patients in confined canyon areas. Additionally, they learn patient treatment and safe extrication from these demanding environments. Rope rigging with high-angle offsets and highlines features in many, but not all, problem-solving scenarios. The training stresses utilizing all standard team gear for technical solutions. This gear includes ropes, carabiners, webbing, pulleys, and essential accessory cordage. Participants will learn to develop their technical approach using this fundamental equipment. Furthermore, this class provides extensive instruction on the use of the Arizona Vortex artificial high directional.
- Offset Highline Rescue Workshop (OHRW)—This course is specialized for rope access technicians and first responders, focusing on temporary rigging with elevated rope tracking elements. We conduct this workshop in the Granite Dells of Prescott, AZ, and begin with simple lessons on the physics of ropes used above the ground and under tension. The OHRW gives students the groundwork for elevated transporting systems and the distinctions between offsets and highlines. In addition to being beneficial for rescue personnel, this course serves as a valuable rope access course. Contact AHS Rescue to learn more about this and any rope rescue classes.
- Tactical Wilderness Rescue Workshop (TWRW)—The TWRW explores solutions for a safe and efficient minimalist wilderness rescue. The serious wilderness SAR practitioner wishing to improve their personal rigging skill and capability in the backcountry, off the beaten path, and definitely out of bounds designs this course. And you can do it quickly without huge systems.
- Tree Rescue Workshop – Firefighter (TRW-F)— Trees present difficult rescue solutions as they are a foreign environment to emergency personnel. In a way, they are very much like tower rescue in that they begin at the bottom with the victim or casualty high up in the branches. How can a firefighter gain access from the ground to this elevated location and get the person needing rescue down? Even better than that, how can someone do this safely and in a timely fashion? These are the basic components of the Tree Rescue Workshop — Firefighter.
