CMC developed the Adjustable Litter Strap because it allows minor adjustments to be made while the litter is being carried. Quickly releasing the buckle extends the strap, preventing the rescuer from being pulled down with the litter.

The strap can also be used for pick-offs. Depending on conditions and manner of loading, the web typically begins to slip through the buckle above 15 kN (3,372 lbf). Tying off the buckle will increase the strength.
