AHS Rescue AZTEK ELITE KIT – ASSEMBLED – 75 FT

Ropes that Rescue Ltd developed the AZTEK system in Arizona. It provides rescue practitioners versatile personal mechanical advantage ($\text{PMA}$). The system uses two double blocks, a “set-of-fours.” This configuration works for both rescue and general rigging. Rock Exotica machines the swivel Omni pulleys from solid aluminum. These pulleys withstand over $8,000\text{ lbs}$ ($36\text{ kN}$) of end-to-end force.

Sterling Rope Company designed all the sewn products. This includes the $8\text{ mm}$ restraint cord, rated at $4,270\text{ lbs}$ ($19\text{ kN}$). The set also has ratchets and shock absorber cords. Ratchets come in two colors for easy use. Two colors on the blocks aid component identification. Color-coding helps you quickly set up the system.

Turn the set-of-fours one way for a $5:1$ mechanical advantage ($\text{MA}$). Flip the set for a $4:1\text{ MA}$ with a change of direction. This simple change makes your $\text{PMA}$ extremely versatile. You can attach the ratchet prusik to either end. Just match orange-to-orange or blue-to-blue.

Progress Capture and Security

The progress capture prusiks use a directional $\text{3 on 2}$ hitch. This laced setup prevents the prusik’s inadvertent loss. One quick pin comes with each set of blocks. You can buy extra pins for a spare in the opposite block.

Focus on simplicity and efficiency first. Always choose versatile gear for multiple uses. The AZTEK’s double end highlights this theme well. Use one side of the zippered pouch for edge protection. Deploy the mini $\text{MA}$ for rigging from the other side. This allows quick and easy access to both functions.

Rigging Applications

This mini $\text{MA}$ works for many rigging tasks. Applications include hauling systems and tensioned back-ties. You can also use it for tensioned guying for high directionals. It works as a dynamic brake rack or dynamic directional. The full $50\text{ ft}$ ($\text{15 m}$) cord gives you about $8\text{ feet}$ of travel.

• Slippage on ratchet prusik at approx 17-18kN
• Slipped again @ 20kN and did not slip anymore
• System failed at 40.42kN
• 4″ slippage of prusik
• The pulley failed at the “becket” where the 8mm sewn eye attaches and also broke the pin. Ratchet was fused to 8mm Edge Restraint cord. The MBS on the 6mm ratchet is 12.9kN so we were getting close to the ratchet limit. It was great to see the system go to 40kN.
