If the terrain demands a mirror sighting compass, you should choose the Ranger 2.0 as your optimal companion. The compass comes with both a slope card and a distance lanyard. The slope card is great because you can use it to detect avalanche risk and determine how challenging your journey will be. Furthermore, by knowing the slope, you can also accurately judge any extra distance the incline requires you to travel.

The distance lanyard has four scales on it—1:24k, 1:25k, 1:50k, and 1:62.5—which facilitates measuring your hike’s distance. Because it is soft and bendable, you can easily place it directly onto your route on the map. You should choose a mirror sighting compass when you must accurately determine direction over long distances. With the mirror tilted to a 45-degree angle, you can check your direction by looking at the bezel in the mirror while sighting the correct direction of travel. Since you need not lift your eyes from the compass to look into the terrain, you determine the direction more accurately with the Silva 1-2-3 System®.

The Ranger 2.0 features a DryFlex™ grip for easy handling. It includes a clinometer for measuring slope angle, a built-in adjuster for magnetic declination, a magnifying lens, and rubber friction feet for precision map work. Additionally, it features map-measuring in millimeters and inches with scales of 1:25k, 1:50k, 1:24k USGS scale, and GPS scales. The clear, contemporary font, combined with lots of transparency in the baseplate, makes navigation easier, and luminous markings enable you to navigate at night when activated in light. Finally, the red/black and North/South lines in the capsule bottom ensure easy and safe settling, and the finest Swedish steel with high-quality magnetic features comprises the needle.
